FAQ: Ethernet Express

Authors list

Q: What is Ethernet Express?

Our Ethernet Express service is a lower cost alternative to our Enterprise level Ethernet service and is targeted at small businesses with fewer than 5 employees.

Q: How is it different from other Atlantech Online Ethernet-based services?

Ethernet Express is an asymmetrical service offering with bundled Download/Upload speed packages of 20/5 and 60/15 megabits per second.  Ethernet Express is also a DHCP-provided service where the device with which you connect to Atlantech is enabled for DHCP address assignment on the 'outside' or 'WAN' interface.

Q: Is Ethernet Express available everywhere?

No, Ethernet Express is not available in every Atlantech Online lit building.  Please contact one of our Sales Representatives (sales@atlantech.net) to see if Ethernet Express is available at your location.

Q: Can I get a static IP?

Yes, a single static IP address can be purchased for a small fee.  If you purchase the single static IP address option, you may also purchase a routed subnet of eight (8) public IPv4 addresses.  IPv6 is available upon request.  The IP subnet you purchase will be routed to your device as a static route on our equipment.

Q: Can I use multiple devices such as firewalls or routers with Ethernet Express?

You may only use one device to connect to Atlantech Online through the Ethernet Express service.  If you have more than one device, you must either purchase another Ethernet Express service or upgrade to our Enterprise level Ethernet service.

Q: What add-on services are available with Ethernet Express?

Atlantech Online offers only voice service through Ethernet Express as an add-on.  If you require an MPLS Layer 2 or Layer 3 VPN, or require more than 8 public IPv4 addresses, you must upgrade to our Enterprise level Ethernet service.

Q: Can I use voice services reliably with Ethernet Express?

Absolutely.  You can use Atlantech Online's voice service which is provided by our Class 5 softswitch right from Atlantech's network, or you can use another voice over IP provider.  Atlantech does not prioritize our own voice service over a competing voice service.  If your voice provider's RTP streams are tagged with the 'ef' (Expedited Forwarding) DSCP46 bit, then we will treat them just like our own voice services.
